Della Luna was staged in Westminster's Gillmor Hall, and with a very limited lighting plot, I had to maximize the use of every fixture. Working with an inventory consisting of conventional ellipsoidals, LED washes, and one moving fixture, the conventional fixtures were used to create the general illumination (GI). To build the world around the actors, I relied heavily on the LED washes. By utilizing the color and warmth of these fixtures, the lighting became one of the primary tools for shifting locations. With just a change of the LED wash and the projections, we could instantly transport the audience from the outside, to the mansion's interior, and to the otherworldly glow of the moon.
