To achieve the isolation needed for key moments, I had to get creative with the gear I had available. I used the venue’s single moving light, programming it to replicate the function of a traditional spotlight throughout the show, as well as using it to apply breakup gobos to help make depth in outdoor scenes.
Working in Westminster's Gillmor Hall meant designing around a limited light plot. My goal was to create a dynamic, rich environment for Dido and Aeneas without letting the venue's technical limitations keep from building a rich world.
To give the stage a deeper, more dimensional feel, I utilized the three sheer white curtains from the set design. By placing lights directly behind the fabric, I created a glowing, layered effect that added visual depth and transformed a the space into a the world of Dido and Aeneas.
